Wrinkles tell of laughter, of worries, of life. But sometimes you may wish that your facial expression simply radiated freshness and relaxation. In modern aesthetic medicine, treatment with botulinum toxin (often known as Botox®) is no longer a taboo, but an established tool to emphasize your own well-being.
But what exactly is behind it? What are the possibilities, what are the limits? And what really matters when it comes to treatment? We spoke to our doctor Patricia from Beauty2Go to clarify the most frequently asked questions about this active ingredient and to give you a look behind the scenes of her work.

The path to aesthetic medicine: more than just beauty
For Patricia, the path to aesthetic medicine was a logical consequence. „Your own well-being is closely linked to your self-image,“ she explains. Here she found the perfect combination of sound medical knowledge, the need for precise work and a fine aesthetic sense. „I am fascinated by how small, targeted changes can have a positive impact on the overall radiance of a face. It's about preserving naturalness and enhancing personal well-being at the same time.“
What is botulinum toxin and how does it work?
Botulinum toxin is a highly pure protein that specifically reduces muscle activity. Patricia explains the process simply: „It blocks the signal transmission from the nerve to the muscle. This relaxes the muscle and wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions are smoothed out.“ The result is a face that appears more balanced and fresh without losing its natural dynamism. The effect of this muscle relaxant sets in gently after a few days and usually lasts for three to six months.
Safety first: What are the risks?
One of the most common concerns is safety. Patricia emphasizes: „Risks arise above all if the active ingredient is used improperly or in the wrong dosage.“ In Switzerland, its use is therefore reserved exclusively for trained doctors. Possible but rare side effects include minor bruising, slight swelling or temporary asymmetries. „In experienced hands, the treatment is extremely safe. Precise technique, detailed anatomical knowledge and the correct assessment of which muscle groups should be treated are crucial.“
From the forehead to the feet: The versatile areas of application
Treatment with botulinum toxin is much more than just a remedy for frown lines.
The classic zones:
- forehead wrinkles
- Frown lines (glabella)
- Crow's feet around the eyes
Increasingly popular treatments:
- Raising the corners of the mouth
- Defining the chin line (Jawline)
The active ingredient is also highly effective for functional purposes:
- Against teeth grinding (bruxism): by relaxing the chewing muscle.
- For tension headaches and migraines: through targeted injections in the neck and head area.
- Against excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis): on armpits, hands and feet.
The trend: from correction to self-evident prevention
„Treatment with botulinum toxin has made the transition from taboo to a normal skincare routine,“ observes Patricia. More and more people see it as a preventative measure to slow down the formation of deep expression lines from the outset. The trend is clearly moving away from rigid faces towards very finely dosed, regular treatments for a subtle, refreshed look. The so-called „Baby Botox“ method, in which minimal amounts are used, is a good keyword here.
The target group is broadly diversified and ranges from mid-20s to 60s. Younger customers mainly want to prevent wrinkles, while older customers want to smooth existing wrinkles and give their face more relaxation. However, the goal remains the same for everyone: to look fresh, refreshed and, above all, natural.
The most important thing is trust: The basis of every treatment
When asked what is particularly important to her when working with customers, Patricia answers without hesitation: „Trust. I want to understand exactly what is bothering someone so that we can define realistic goals together.“ For her, honest, transparent advice about impact, limits and possible alternatives is the basis of everything. „The result must look harmonious, respect the personality and preserve natural facial expressions.“
A look into the future
Will there soon be alternatives to this treatment method? „There is currently no real alternative to botulinum toxin when it comes to relaxing muscles,“ says Patricia. „But the future lies in intelligent combination therapies.“ Regenerative treatments with skin boosters or collagen stimulants, which also improve skin structure and elasticity, are the perfect complement. In this way, skin, muscles and tissue can be supported holistically for a long-lasting, fresh and natural result.
